Types of Construction Equipment from National Plant & Equipment

Heavy equipment is vital for construction jobs of any kind or scale, from home building to large scale civil and commercial projects. Earthmoving equipment spans a broad range of machines, which can excavate and transport rock and soil, apart from other jobs.

Earthmovers and other heavy construction equipment aid not only in speeding up earthwork but also construction, demolition, and material handling. Several kinds of heavy construction equipment are designed for multiple functions, making them indispensable for construction sites.

National Plant & Equipment is an Australian company, which offers a wide range of heavy construction equipment. The main kinds of heavy construction equipment offered by the company include the following:

Excavators

These are huge construction equipment, which can be driven by wheels or tracks, but tracks are more standard. A traditional excavator has a long bucket arm connected to a pivoting cab, which can rotate a full 360 degrees. The operator occupies the cab and has a good view of the site, perched from there.   These machines are highly versatile and can be fitted with special attachments for specialty jobs. Common uses of an excavator include:

Excavating foundations, holes, and trenches.

Material handling
Demolition
Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments
Pipe installation and heavy lifting
Rough grading
River dredging
Mining

Excavators are used in the construction industry more than any other machine. It is one of the most recognizable equipment because of its long hydraulic arm with a shovel attached to the end. The equipment rests on a pair of tracks.

Backhoe Loaders

Often referred to as backhoes, such equipment has bodies similar to farm tractors and consists of an adjustable shovel in front and a small bucket at the back for digging. This equipment is regarded as medium-sized construction equipment for small jobs and has the capacity to work in limited space to perform various operations. They can move dirt, dig trenches & holes, backfill excavations and put in place, pipes and other materials. One good quality of backhoe loaders is that they are wheel driven and can be used in urban areas.

Bull Dozers

They are the most reliable and powerful heavy equipment used in the construction industry. They are strong and heavy machines used to move dirt along large open tracts of land. They have a wide, flat blade in front which can be operated using two hydraulic pistons to move the blade in a limited range of depths and angles. They are typically used to push piles of earth or to crush large boulders.

Dump Trucks

They are required for almost every big job site. They offer limited function but provide the crucial task of moving and dumping of many kinds of heavy materials. They are also road-ready so they can carry material into and out of the site and can travel to any place where large equipment is allowed. Dump trucks come in various sizes for different load and capacity needs, ranging from small utility type trucks with dumping beds to enormous machines used in mining work.

These are the major kinds of heavy equipment used in the construction industry and provided by National Plant & Equipment.
